Member Highlight – LTAMS Executive Assistant – Rene’ Garner

The Land Title Association of Mississippi is pleased to welcome Rene’ Garner in the newly established position of Executive Assistant to the Board of Directors. Rene’ will serve as an ambassador for the Association to promote its interests as well as assist the Board in directing and supervising the Association’s affairs. Many LTAMS members may already know Rene’ from her previous position with The Mississippi Bar, where she had similar duties.

What you may not know about Rene’ is that she began her college career at Mississippi State University as an Aerospace Engineering major. She switched gears before her junior year to major in Sports Communication with a minor in Public Relations. After Graduation, Rene’ worked in Minor League Baseball for three years with the Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres organizations. Subsequent positions include a stint as the Sports Information Director in MSU’s Athletic Department and a move to Brandon for work with a local advertising agency where one of her accounts was The Mississippi Bar. After working with Rene’ on a project, Melanie Henry hired her to serve as the Section and Young Lawyers Division Coordinator, a role she held for 13 years.

Rene’ expertly coordinates and organizes events, programs, and projects; but her favorite part of her wide range of career experiences is “the honor to meet and work with some amazing people.” During her time with the Braves, Rene’ particularly recalls a week when the clubhouse manager kept telling the players that they would be getting a new player on Friday. Little did they know that she was the player and would be warming up with the team in her very own Braves jersey, a gift from the manager. “That experience,” she says, “also included taking BP (batting practice) off Rafael Belliard (played from 1982 to 1998 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Atlanta Braves and was a part of Atlanta’s World Series Championship in 1995).”

Another of Rene’s many interests is in working with children. She currently helps students with math at Brandon Elementary School and participates in many other school activities. While with The Mississippi Bar, she served as the State Coordinator of the Mississippi High School Mock Trial Competition.

Rene’s husband, Clay, is an assistant principal at Brandon High School. They have two children, Jacob (15) and Sydney (12), both of whom serve on student councils and in various clubs. Jacob is a member of the robotics, football, and track team at the high school; and Sydney plays select soccer and is a member of the volleyball and track teams at Brandon Middle School. The family is also very active at St. Paul Catholic Church. Obviously, Rene’ is a huge MSU sports fan; but she also loves to read, tackle creative projects like woodworking and sewing, and try her hand a becoming a “plant mom.” In 2021, Rene’ traveled with her children and a friend to Omaha for the entire two and a half weeks of the College World Series to watch the Bulldogs win the National Championship. Clay joined them for the final game because he said he missed them, but Rene’ says, “I think it might have been more to monitor the credit card.”

If you need assistance with any aspect of LTAMS, Rene’ can help or find someone who can. Her email is rgarner@ltams.org.
