Member Highlight – Underwriter: Danny Crotwell
After two decades as a title insurance underwriter, there cannot be many title issues that Danny Crotwell has not encountered. He currently serves as Vice-President and Underwriting Counsel for Fidelity National Title Insurance Company and held the position of Vice-President and State Counsel for Stewart Title Guaranty Company for 21 years. Danny was in private practice for 16 years, specializing in real estate transactions and general litigation. He received his law degree from the University of Mississippi Law Center and a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Mississippi.
Danny is a past President of the Southeast Land Title Association and past Chairman of the Real Property Section of the Mississippi Bar. He is currently serving on the Board of the Land Title Association of Mississippi. He sees his greatest professional accomplishment, however, as helping his agents grow and succeed.
Danny’s work involves assisting agents with title issues, conducting CLE and training seminars, and underwriting large commercial transactions. In Danny’s words, “I’m not always the smartest lawyer in the room, but I have been an Underwriter for over twenty years and I was a title agent for 15 years. I have seen most of the issues that arise. I pride myself on responding to my Agents quickly and creatively.” Danny has seen his share of unique situations as well as the typical ones. He once closed a loan where the borrower had a large, loud, emerald green parrot perched on his shoulder throughout the closing.
In his free time, Danny enjoys reading, cooking, golfing, and fishing. He has two sons, ages 24 and 27. The oldest is a former Marine and currently a Ridgeland firefighter studying to become a paramedic. His younger son is a student at Ole Miss. As a Navy brat, Danny has lived in Key West, Florida; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; and Keflavik, Iceland.
