Member Highlight – Agent: Jana Manlove
Although Jana Manlove began her legal career working for an insurance defense firm, she has found her niche in the field of real estate curative work. Jana graduated from Millsaps College in 1998 and Mississippi College School of Law in 2002, then clerked for a Court of Appeals judge for one year. In 2006, she began work for the firm of MacNeill & Buffington, P.A., where Mike McKay and Marc McKay served as her real estate law mentors. Jana credits their “wealth of knowledge to share about real estate law” as an important factor in helping her start out in this business.
Speaking of her day-to-day work, Jana says:
I enjoy curative work because I compare it to a puzzle. You take all the pieces and try to figure out how to get ‘good title.’ Sometimes you have to be a little creative and think outside the box.
She points to persistence, creativity, focus, and the ability to work under pressure as the keys to doing her job well. The team environment of a small group of attorneys with different areas of specialty gives her office the unique opportunity to retain and share files rather than refer them to other firms.
Jana’s skill in resolving conflict over title issues is evident even in her relationships with parties on the other side of a problem. Once in the course of filing suit and obtaining authorization to proceed with foreclosure, she spoke with the borrower numerous times and met her at the hearing. Afterwards, the borrower had her mother make a detailed Christmas stocking for Jana’s son, which Jana still hangs on her mantel every Christmas.
Jana has been married to Chad Manlove for 13 years, and they have two boys – Chase (7) and Reed (4). Chad has worked for Ducks Unlimited for over 20 years, and they have a “four-legged baby,” Cam, who loves to hunt ducks. Outside of the office, Jana can be found at baseball fields, karate lessons, and swimming lessons for her sons. As a family, they enjoy spending time at deer camp in Tallahatchie County and attending Ducks Unlimited events. They have traveled to see glaciers in Alaska and go snorkeling in Hawaii. One national convention even took them to the home of a member of Big & Rich for a private concert.
