Member Highlight – Agent: Shannon Elliott
Shannon Elliott – founder of the Elliott Law Firm with offices in Brandon, Madison, and Flowood – has made her law practice a family affair by partnering with her husband, John Elliott, to focus primarily on residential real estate transactions. She received her bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University in 1997 and a law degree from Mississippi College School of Law in 2002.
Shannon got her start in the field by working with D. J. Horecky and learning to close real estate loans. Her advice for beginners would be to learn all that you can from more experienced closing attorneys. Looking back over her years in the business, Shannon observes, “The pace of business gets faster every year.” She mentions attention to detail and the ability to work under constant time pressure as keys to doing her job well. Those skills must have been put to the test for the closing where she was asked to take closing documents to a hospital for a young mother to sign while in labor. Shannon says the mother gave birth 10 minutes after they completed the signing.
One of Shannon’s primary goals is to treat all parties to each transaction with respect and in a way that she would like to be treated in her own personal closing. She particularly enjoys helping clients purchase their first homes and strives to provide each client with a great experience. Her methods must be working because she was voted “Best Attorney” in Rankin County for 2018 and 2019 in a poll conducted by Hometown Magazine. Shannon was also recognized by Mid-South Super Lawyers as one of the “rising stars” in the area of real estate for 2011.
Shannon and John have two sons, Trey (18) and Hayes (15), who work part-time in their firm to help with loan closings. Two years ago, they enjoyed a family river cruise down the Rhine River, visiting Germany, France, and the Netherlands. Shannon’s favorite pass times including reading and shopping.
