Tyler McCaughn
Tyler McCaughn is a native of Morton, MS where he currently resides. He is married to Carrie Balentine
McCaughn and they have one son named Whit. Tyler is a graduate of Morton High School, Jones County
Junior College, and the University of Mississippi. Following his undergraduate work, Tyler received his
law degree from Mississippi College School of Law in Jackson. After passing the bar, Tyler joined a
general law practice in Newton where he eventually became the sole owner of J. Tyler McCaughn, PLLC.
His practice consists primarily of real estate transactions, estate work, business formation, criminal
defense, and general practice work.
In 2020, Tyler McCaughn followed Senator Terry Burton by taking the oath to represent District 31 in the
Mississippi State Senate. He currently serves as chairman of the Senate Forestry Committee and vicechair
of the Senate Judiciary A Committee.
Tyler McCaughn is an active member of Forest Methodist Church, the Newton Rotary Club, the Newton
Chamber, the Choctaw Area Boy Scouts of America Board of Directors, and the Morton Chamber of
Commerce. He is a recipient of various awards including being recognized a member of the 2011 Top 40
Under 40 and the Leaders in Law by the Mississippi Business Journal. In his spare time, Tyler enjoys
working on his family cattle farm, playing with his son, beekeeping, and woodworking.
