Member Highlight – Abstractor: Sandra Warren

After holding an office manager position in a construction company for 16 years, Sandra Warren entered the field of title abstracting as a Deputy Chancery Clerk, where she performed searches on delinquent tax parcels. “I worked there for five years,” Sandra remembers, “and after much prayer and soul-searching, I took a leap of faith, leaving my county job to pursue abstracting full-time. I’ve been incredibly blessed to have a successful business.” Sandra, a 1971 graduate of Prentiss High School, resides in New Hebron, Mississippi, and has been in the abstracting profession for 30 years. In 2024, she was presented with the LTAMS Professional Excellence Award.

Sandra handles both residential and commercial abstracts, and she states that she loves “the hunt. It’s like putting together a puzzle to some extent.” With her experience, she has some valuable advice for new abstractors:

Lesson one: Learn to plat! Be an exacting abstractor. Don’t take on more counties than you can manage. Guard those books well and treat the employees of the county and all others in the records room with respect.

Recently, Sandra has learned to say “no” when necessary to get a job done for her clients.

For Sandra, the addition of the courthouse’s colorful characters only adds to the intrigue of her work. She has run into television actors there to take care of family business at the clerk’s office, and there was even a guitarist who played with Elvis for years. She also values the history contained in the records—the old-fashioned names and glimpses of the past.

Sandra has been married to her husband, Keith, for 42 years. They have two children, Angie and Cole. Cole and his wife, Lori, have been blessed with two lovely grandchildren—10-year-old Chloe and 7-year-old Hayden. Both Sandra and Keith are avid readers and enjoy visiting the Smoky Mountains, hiking, and traveling back roads. Camping in their RV is another pastime, traveling all around Mississippi, visiting family, and spoiling those grandchildren. While Keith has recently retired, Sandra has no intention of retiring just yet.
