Member Highlight – Agent: Amarette Speights

Amarette H. A. Speights was born and raised in South Mississippi to Dane and Wendy Aube – both
of whom were educators. She attended K-12 at Seminary Attendance Center and graduated in 2011
from Ole Miss with a Bachelor of Arts – majoring in Political Science with a minor in Engineering.
Amarette was very involved during her time at Ole Miss, including, Pride of the South Marching
Band, Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band, Honors College, Dobro Slovo (Russian Honors Society),
Society of Women Engineers and Baptist Student Union, among others. Amarette earned her Juris
Doctorate from Mississippi College School of Law in 2014. She achieved numerous honors at MC
Law, including American Jurisprudence Awards in Constitutional Law, Employment Law, and
Comparative Constitutional Law; the Betty B. Tucker Award; and she also served as an Executive
Editor of the Mississippi College Law Review, as a Legal Extern in Gov. Phil Bryant’s Office, as a
Research Assistant for Professor Matt Steffey, and as a Law Clerk for the University of Mississippi
Medical Center.

Following law school, Amarette says she was fortunate enough to be able to work under Madison
County Court Judge to be, Staci O’Neal. Amarette was able to learn under this tutelage and quickly
became enamored with real estate law. During this time, she learned to appreciate a small law firm
environment and a real team of professionals. Not only did Amarette gain invaluable knowledge in
real estate law from Judge O’Neal, she also was able to take part in political campaigning.

Currently Amarette practices mainly residential and commercial real estate closings and commercial
abstracting for Northeast Mississippi. She is a Stewart Title Agent and a First American Title Agent. She
enjoys working with people making big life changes and meeting their goals. Just as she enjoyed her start
in a small office, she enjoys owning her own small business. She attributes her day-to-day successes on a
combination of solid procedures, dedicated staff, and utilization of technology.

We asked Amarette what lessons she has learned in her work, to which she quoted former Stewart
Title Attorney Warren Laird, “there is no such thing as a real estate emergency.” Amarette attributes
patience as a virtue she has learned. She pointed to the stressors of multiple parties in transactions
and how keeping a cool head really makes the difference. A little bit of time helps too.

Amarette tells us that being in an all-female firm makes her business unique. She attributes the
diverse age ranges in her firm—from Gen Z to Boomer—as being beneficial to her business. She
says being open to change is a big part of her practice. Willingness to change processes and
technology with intention is key to making her practice a success. That openness to change starts
from the staff up for Amarette.

When asked what she considers to be her greatest professional accomplishment, Amarette again
praised her staff. Hiring an amazing staff was her immediate response. Being able to delegate and
trust her team members is a major tool in her arsenal. Being a working mother and busy professional
requires a balance that having great staff affords her. Whether it is Trunk or Treat or attending a
LTAMS convention, Amarette’s work product is safely supported by dedicated employees.

Amarette juggles being both a dedicated wife and mother as well as a consummate professional. She
has been married to John “Ryan” Speights, MD since 2012. He is a hospitalist physician at NMMC
in Tupelo. They have two children together—Atticus age 6 and Georgiana (Georgie) age 4. Amarette
does ask for prayers as Atticus is down two front teeth and Georgie is planning birthday number 5 all
in time for Christmas!

Amarette has offices in Tupelo on West Main Street and Corinth on North Filmore Street. She lives
in Northeast Mississippi where she is active in the community and professional organizations.
