Member Highlight – Agent: Brad Reeves
Brad attended Mississippi State University and majored in Construction Management & Land Development. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law. He has been an active member of The Mississippi Bar since his admission to practice, having served as President of the Young Lawyers Division and on The Mississippi Bar Complaint Tribunal.
Brad has been a licensed real estate broker, and, since 2008, has been an adjunct professor of Real Estate & Real Estate Law at Mississippi College. He has been taking coursework to receive certification as a Historic Real Estate Development Finance Professional (HREDFP) and anticipates completion this Fall. Brad was awarded the “Best New Development Project” by the Mississippi Main Street Association for the renovation of ARTichoke in Belhaven. Brad has been the owner of Brent’s Drugs in Fondren since 2009, along with the opening of The Apothecary in 2013 which has been named one of “America’s 50 Best Bars” by Esquire magazine and one of The South’s “Best Bars” by both Garden & Gun and Southern Living.
Brad has been involved with numerous organizations, including serving on the board of the Mississippi Main Street Association, Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership, New Stage Theater, Downtown Jackson Partners, Fondren Renaissance Foundation and Jackson Academy. Brad served as National President of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association, President of the Mississippi Heritage Trust, Mississippi Representative on the Natchez Trace Parkway Association, and was elected to 2011 Class of the Mississippi Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40.
Early in Brad’s legal career, he had the opportunity to represent multiple interstate pipeline clients as they negotiated and acquired the property rights necessary to construct new pipelines across the State of Mississippi, often signing documents on the tailgate of a truck. He also had a number of clients and contacts who needed assistance reviewing and drafting leases and found that other attorneys had no interest. Just over 10 years ago, he left a large regional firm to focus primarily on real estate law and closings. In 2022, Brad partnered with Gretchen Gentry and Matt Vitart to launch Covenant Title, LLC and their firm, Reeves, Gentry & Vitart, PLLC. Their firm places an emphasis on customer service and customer experience. They seek to incorporate technology to make the closing process easy and convenient for the parties and more efficient for their staff. While always trying to refine their systems, their goal is for the closing process to be an enjoyable one for all of the parties involved.
The large majority of Brad’s work is commercial and residential real estate closings, title insurance and curative work, commercial leases, business transactions and business entity formation. He is often engaged by buyers, sellers, investors and lenders seeking assistance on all aspects of real estate from the negotiation of purchase and sale agreements to rezoning, development, leasing and evictions. Brad enjoys the interaction with buyers, sellers and other attorneys and building relationships with clients, realtors and lenders. He also prefers the shorter timeframe of real estate transactions which are hopefully complete within 90 days as opposed to litigation that can drag out for years.
Brad has learned an attorney can both diligently represent a client and maintain a professional rapport with attorneys on the other side of a transaction, often avoiding delay due to disputes over trivial matters. Therefore, he much prefers to work with attorneys to see if they can identify and achieve the shared goals of the clients whenever possible.
Brad is very proud of his service with The Mississippi Bar, and during his tenure as President of the Young Lawyers Division, a new bar committee for Attorney Wellness was created to help attorneys accomplish professional development and growth while also achieving fulfillment in their personal lives. Mississippi attorneys can earn one hour of continuing legal education each year for a seminar on attorney wellness, professionalism or mental health.
One of the funniest situations Brad has seen in this business is a legal dispute he handled involving three parties who were all pastors of three different churches. It was an important lesson on perspective as all three assured him that they were a victim and telling the truth, though the facts did not seem to line up that way.
Brad enjoys having a hand in helping Mississippians achieve their dream of home ownership and helping clients to resolve issues related to their property or business. He has often pondered a legislative enactment to assist with the insurability of parcels with a tax sale in the chain of title (currently thousands in the State of Mississippi), potentially a three-year statute of limitations for overturning tax sales which begins running on the date of the title confirmation judgment.
Brad is married to Mandy Armstrong Reeves, an OB/GYN at Jackson Healthcare for Women, and lives in Jackson with their two children, Caroline (10) and Mason (7).
Brad enjoys traveling, spending time with family and renovating real estate, particularly historic buildings. At age 16 Brad solo jumped out of a perfectly good airplane, reached his goal of traveling to all 50 US states in high school, and ran with the bulls at the Festival of San Fermin in Pamplona, Spain. And then he had kids. Brad liked bad jokes before he was a Dad. He plans to start drafting “Quick Claim” deeds and charging a premium for them based upon the number of requests received.
