U.S. Chamber of Commerce Launches Campaign to Rein In “Out-of-Control” CFPB Director Rohit Chopra
On June 28, 2022, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched an extensive campaign to expose and defeat what it views as Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Rohit Chopra’s ideologically driven agenda to radically change the nature of America’s financial services industry. The Chamber stated that “if allowed to proceed, [Chopra’s] agenda would harm consumer choice and innovation.” The Chamber’s campaign specifically objects to several actions it views as unlawful, including Chopra’s intentions to change rules without accountability, injecting great uncertainty into the market therefore causing financial companies to limit the types of mortgages, car loans, and personal credit they can offer consumers.
