Bye Bye RON/RIN – We hardly knew ye.
Gov. Tate Reeves has announced the end of the COVID-19 State of Emergency in Mississippi. The end of the State of Emergency is set to take effect on August 15, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. Why is this important from a title perspective? This means the end of RON and RIN in Mississippi! Executive Order 1467, which was executed on April 7, 2020, authorized remote notarization and remote online notarization in Mississippi. The Executive Order effectively waived the in-person requirement for notarizing documents in Mississippi “for the duration of the COVID-19 emergency and for fourteen days thereafter …”. This means that the last day that RON and RIN may be used in Mississippi under the Executive Order is August 29, 2021.
For a discussion on the requirements for RON/RIN, see Remote Notarization and Remote Online Notarization.
